STICK WITH DAMRON
( Lexington
Herald-Leader - October 10, 2006 )
39th District should keep effective representative
During his seven terms in the state House,
Nicholasville Democrat Bob Damron has caused
our dander to rise on
numerous occasions -- usually with
his stands on guns and a variety of social
issues.
Just as often, though, he has won our admiration
with his tireless work on
behalf of some of the state's
most needy citizens: the mentally ill, the
elderly, homeless
veterans, victims of domestic violence and
cancer patients.
On balance, Damron, who represents the 39th District
(Jessamine County and a sliver of Fayette
County), is one of the
state's better legislators. He works harder
than most and,
therefore, accomplishes more than most.
During this term, he joined the leadership of the
Democratic majority as caucus chairman, which
puts him in a position to
be even more effective in the future.
Damron's opponent this year is Republican Lynne
Fuller, who declined to be interviewed in our
endorsement process. But Fuller would have
had to be very impressive
to persuade us not to endorse Damron.
For even though we disagree with him on some issues,
we respect and appreciate his work on behalf
of the causes we have in
common with him.
Voters in the 39th District should also appreciate
what they have in Damron, and they would be
doing themselves a service
by re-electing him.

Kentucky
Chamber PAC endorses
Representative Bob Damron
FRANKFORT, Ky.
(Oct. 9, 2006) – The
Kentucky Chamber Political Action Committee (PAC)
board of directors has named Rep. Bob Damron to its
annual legislative candidate endorsement list. The
endorsement list highlights Kentucky Legislative
races where business friendly and pro-economic
development candidates can have an impact in the
Kentucky General Assembly.
“Rep. Robert Damron is a
true statesman for his district and all of the
commonwealth,” says Kentucky Chamber PAC Chairman
Steve Loyal. “Rep. Damron has been a longtime
champion for Kentucky’s economic development and
growth for Kentucky’s businesses.”
In his extensive
legislative career, Rep. Damron has been
instrumental in reaching across partisan lines to
help move Kentucky forward. Rep. Damron has
extensive and proven expertise in the areas of
health care, education and workers’ compensation. In
2006, Rep. Damron cast important votes to help bring
tax relief to thousands of Kentucky’s small
businesses, as well as important education and
health care bills.
The Kentucky Chamber PAC
was created to provide a forum for business people
to come together and develop a unified effort to
elect experienced, like-minded candidates with a
vision to help advance Kentucky. Candidates are
selected based on their position on key issues and
their personal business experience in comparison to
their opponent(s). The Kentucky Chamber PAC provides
in-kind support only for those races where business
can and will make a difference.
The Kentucky Chamber PAC
is a non-partisan organization that represents
thousands of Kentucky businesses and trade and
professional associations. The group’s goal is to
elect candidates to the General Assembly who support
the principles of free enterprise and economic
prosperity in Kentucky.

Legislative
dynamo

39th should
hold on to hard-working Damron
State Rep. Bob Damron is
one of the hardest working members of the General
Assembly.
In a typical year, he will
introduce 20 or more bills and numerous resolutions.
Some of these pieces of
legislation are serious stuff indeed. Others are less
important in the grand scheme of things, perhaps
significant to only a small portion of Damon's
constituency.
No matter how big or little
the issue, though, he is tireless in promoting his causes.
And remarkably, he succeeds about half the time. That's
almost unheard of in the state legislature.
He succeeds because he does
his homework, knows his stuff when he brings it to the
table and outworks those who might oppose him.
Over his six terms in the
state House, we have admired him and, well, admired him
considerably less.
We have our differences
with him on a variety of social issues and his dogged
support for a variety of bills promoting the interests of
gun lovers.
We have found him more
likeable when he puts his considerable abilities to use
for the mentally ill, victims of domestic violence,
breast-cancer patients, the elderly, homeless veterans,
credit-card privacy and better weapons for the state
police.
On balance, we believe
voters in the 39th District (Jessamine County and a tiny
part of Fayette) should return him to the House this year.
We do know Damron, and we
know his district would be hard-pressed to find anyone who
would work harder or more effectively to represent them.

“On behalf
of The Family Foundation and from me personally, I want to thank
you for your vote in support of the marriage amendment which
helped make its passage possible. Even more, we are well aware
that you supported the amendment all through its tumultuous
journey through the House of Representatives and took courageous
stands behind the scenes to restore the original language of SB
245 that keeps marriage set apart --- in that special place all
by itself.”
Kent Ostrander,
Executive Director of The Family Foundation

support.”

“Rep. Bob
Damron has continued to be among a small group of legislators
honored as Taxpayers’ Best Friends. Funding the programs and
services Kentuckians need without raising taxes requires prudent
management, but it certainly can be done. These are the people
who held the line and opposed taxes."
Rand Paul,
Chairman
Kentucky Taxpayers United.

“Kentucky
AARP wishes to thank Rep. Bob Damron for the tremendous work he

facility or a continuing care retirement community.”

“I sincerely
thank Rep. Bob Damron for his integrity, his commitment to his
constituents, and his devotion to Jessamine County and its well
being which he demonstrates over and over again in Frankfort. I
regret to see full-blown hate being fostered between political
parties in an effort to win at any cost. We are all for most
Americans. There are times when the most experienced and best
qualified man or woman must be elected regardless of party and
to that end, I will be supporting Bob Damron in the fall
election.”
Margaret Morgan
Former Chair, Jessamine County Republican Party

“Rep. Damron
continues to be recognized as the most productive lawmaker in
the number of bills signed into law the past four legislative
sessions, according to the statistics from the Legislative
Research Commission. Rep. Damron is unique in his ability to
effectively win passage of his legislation. This conservative
Democrat has written more laws than most of his colleagues,
since he was first elected in 1992. His batting average on
getting bills signed into law is better than 50%, a remarkable
success in a world of compromise and deadlock.”
